“From Pure Water to Clean Air”: Coway Champions ‘Plastic-Free’ Initiatives in Pursuit of Net Zero Goals

Coway (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the leading water and air purification brand from South Korea, is calling for a collective effort to “Reduce and Eliminate Plastic” as part of its commitment to environmental stewardship. Under the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution” for World Environment Day, the “Best Life Solution Company” has reaffirmed its dedication to resource efficiency and officially announced its roadmap toward Net Zero by 2050. Coway aims to integrate sustainable innovation across its “Water Care,” “Air Care,” and “Living Care” portfolios to enhance quality of life while safeguarding the planet.

Strategic Vision: “Coway Caring for The Better Earth”

Mr. Ki-Ryong Choi, City Executive Officer of Coway (Thailand) Co., Ltd., stated:“At Coway, we believe that significant change begins with individual actions through the simple principles of ‘Reduce, Separate, and Select.’ These actions not only minimize plastic waste but also effectively lower the carbon footprint of our daily routines. Beyond providing health-centric products, we are dedicated to innovating for a better world. Our product design process prioritizes sustainability at every stage—from utilizing eco-friendly materials and employing 100% renewable energy in production to implementing rigorous waste management. Currently, over 75% of Coway’s product components are recyclable, marking a critical milestone in our ‘Coway Caring for The Better Earth’ initiative.”

Technological Excellence Meets Environmental Impact

Coway’s commitment to resource conservation is best exemplified by its high-performance water filtration systems. Utilizing advanced Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology with a sophisticated Membrane filter, Coway systems can filter particles as minute as 0.0001 microns. This molecular-level precision effectively eliminates pathogens, chlorine, heavy metals, and invisible residues with a 99.99% efficiency rate.

Beyond health benefits, this technology empowers consumers to transition away from bottled water. By providing a reliable source of clean water at home, Coway facilitates a tangible reduction in single-use plastic bottles while offering a more cost-effective long-term solution for households.

Global Commitment to Net Zero

To ensure accountability, Coway has implemented a policy where every new product model must consist of at least 75% recyclable materials. In instances where initial designs fall below this threshold, the company mandates the use of renewable materials or alternative engineering solutions to align with its global mission. Coway’s sustainability roadmap includes:

  • By 2030: A 50% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
  • By 2050: Achieving 100% carbon neutrality (Net Zero).

Addressing Thailand’s Plastic Crisis

The plastic waste challenge remains a critical issue for Thailand. Recent data identifies the country as one of the world’s top ten contributors of plastic waste into the ocean, with over 80% of marine debris originating from land-based activities.

Despite the “Roadmap on Plastic Waste Management (2018–2030)” and successful public-private collaborations to reduce plastic bag usage since 2019, Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) continue to pose a significant environmental threat. As Thailand enters the second phase of its roadmap—aiming for 100% recycling of targeted plastic waste by 2027—the active participation of corporate leaders like Coway is essential in driving the cultural and operational shifts necessary to achieve a truly circular economy.
