The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), in a strategic partnership with the Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility, and Climate (TGC EMC), has officially released the “Solar Rooftop Guidebook” series. This initiative comprises two specialized volumes: Volume 1, tailored for residential dwellings and small-scale buildings, and Volume 2, designed for the industrial sector.

The Vision: Transforming Bangkok into a “Solar Metropolis”

These guidebooks are a pivotal component of the Bangkok Solar City project—a comprehensive initiative spearheaded by the BMA to transition the capital into a “Solar Metropolis.” The project’s framework spans the public, private, and civil sectors, with the primary objectives of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, accelerating the adoption of clean energy, and fostering a resilient, sustainable urban environment.

Inside the Guidebook: A Step-by-Step Roadmap
The manual provides a holistic overview, guiding users from fundamental concepts to practical implementation. Key sections include:

  • Solar Fundamentals (Solar 101): An in-depth look at system operations, types of photovoltaic (PV) panels, and inverter technologies.
  • System Sizing and Load Calculation: Guidance on determining the optimal system capacity based on specific electricity consumption patterns.
  • Financial Viability and ROI Analysis: Detailed frameworks for cost estimation, payback period calculations, and projected electricity savings.
  • Technical Installation Procedures: Best practices for contractor selection, structural integrity assessments, and rigorous safety standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Grid Interconnection: A streamlined walkthrough of the legal documentation, permitting processes, and utility grid connection requirements.
  • Long-term Maintenance and Performance Monitoring: Protocols for system cleaning, routine inspections, and identifying operational anomalies.
